As you know, it is easier than ever to be in communication these days via:
- Text messaging
- Chats / video
- Social media sites
All of these tools are wildly popular and useful, that is true. But how about a little discretion?
When you are in the company of others, do them a favor by putting down the devices and really spending some time with them. Uninterrupted or close to uninterrupted. Can you do it? Do you have the balls? If you do, you will have a much better time, you will learn more than you thought and most importantly, they will appreciate you more than you would have ever believed. Why? You took the time to really spend time with them, get to know them (even though you may have known them forever). You will be appreciated and you will have this odd sense of accomplishment. Why? Because you took the time the listen.
Remember, regardless of encounter, exchange or setting:
- social, lunching, dining
Be with the people you are physically with. They’ll appreciate your undivided attention. HINT – checking your phone under the table or peering at it in your purse is not acceptable. People can see you!
